There is isocks in Timesquare, KL that sells these clothes.. but theyre not of good quality.. but it's a good place to start if your new to lolita.. otherwise online shopping is the alternative. but personally I like to sew my dresses my self.. come to think of it many of the Muslim Lolita's lolify normal clothes or sew their own dresses.. we're not good at sewing but we try tho.. (^w^)

well only some lolita here in malaysia do give negative feedbacks on it.. but all the other lolitas from other countries so far have been so supportive and I'm really grateful to them~ And I will keep on doing what I love regardless of what people say~

The debate: Head scarves, hijabs and Lolita?

I think we can all agree that the main debate here is of Lolita with hijab. There are some with a greatly different opinion to us Muslim Lolitas that Hijab is not suited for Lolita. We think that both Lolita and our religion, Islam, are both flexible enough to merge into each other. By this I mean that Muslims can wear Lolita with the correct guidelines and not disregarding the Islamic dress codes.

Well I’m not saying that our party is entirely on the winning side of this debate nor is the other party the losing side. I’m saying that we, as humans, have different opinions that might not be as correct or as wrong as we think they are. Opinions are opinions and will stay, not as final verdicts to an argument, but solely as opinions and let’s leave it to that.

So I went through the feedbacks and the old comments we received on this blog and also on my formspring page and collected some very good opinions of people from many walks of life and from many different countries. I must say it’s very interesting to read the thoughts of people who do not share the same culture or beliefs but share the same opinion as you.

Here’s one from a very kind friend with the alias, Kimi, who comment on this blog saying:

I'm a latter day saint commonly known as Mormon and one of the things that drew me to Lolita fashion was how modest it is. In my faith we cover our shoulders, shorts and skirts go down to our knees at least,No cleavage, and we never show midriff. That's not even that strict and some people still think it's odd. What's more, some people are incredibly baffled that I spare my virginity till marriage, when did virginity stop being the norm?

I have a friend who’s an avid reader of religions, culture and psychology. She often tells me about Mormon therefore it is not so alien to me as she often tells me about their beliefs and a little bit about their culture. Kimi’s comment is very valuable as she tells the brief description of her religion and how it connected her to Lolita. I too share the same opinion that Lolita is a modest fashion and that was one of the sole factors why I came to like it as it fits into Islam perfectly. It seems that Kimi also found it very fitting with her religion too. Modesty is the key point to Lolita and it is also the key point to Islam, and it seems it is the key point for the Mormons too. I would like to comment on the virginity part. I as a Muslim agree wholeheartedly that our virginity is a gift to our husband and that is a truly wonderful thing. It is just an opinion and I know that some cultures or religion might not have the same opinion and I will respect that.

One particular friend has commented many times on this blog and she has a very interesting opinion to share. Katarzyna commented that:

I think is kinda funny that people get so riled up about it. while i am not of muslim faith i can understand why wearing the hijab is important. my family is polish and very traditional. when i get married i will cover my hair(our scarves are commonly called a Babushka) as is an old tradition in parts of Poland and Russia. i think that people think that covering hair is something only Muslims do and its just not true. hundreds of years ago most women covered their hair, Muslims, Jews, Christians, Hindus, ect. the virgin Mary and practically every woman from the bible covered their hair. its not about being oppressed its about preserving your modesty. its like a gift only your husband gets to unwrap. ;) i think people just misunderstand because they don't take the time to learn about it.

Thanks to Katarzyna, I was reminded that not only Muslims wear headscarves or cover their heads, other religions too. I did think about the non-muslims when I initially made this blog in terms of how non-muslims can comment and give suggestions of what their different views are of our coordinations and ideas, but it didn’t came to me to also include the non-muslims who also cover their heads. So I will keep that in mind for future reference. Thank you I bid to Katarzyna. So with that I’d say that this blog have to change our initial goal of Lolita-base hijabs for muslim to headscarves that can be worn by many other religions instead of only Islam. Therefore, the styles and ideas that are in this blog and that will be posted in this blog are all open to everyone and not just the Muslims.

Another friend of ours, Traeonna, who had commented on one of our posts, gave us some of her opinions:

I do not believe it is "wrong" to wear a headscarf/hijab with Lolita outfits. As Lolita from around the world, we fuse the idea of the Japanese style into our own culture. As an American Lolita, I often blend Japanese Lolita styles with American styles such as 1950s fashion. I actually like it when Lolita from different cultures bring a little of "home" to their style. It makes it unique to them. As an aside, I present a Lolita Fashion and Lifestyle panel/discussion at local events and since happening upon this blog, I have added an additional slide to my PowerPoint that covers Headscarves/Hijab for those who's culture requires a head covering. I hope that it encourages other ladies who wish to wear Lolita to not be discouraged by cultural clothing restrictions, rather, to embrace such and incorporate it where they are able.

Treaonna here have the opinion that fusing one’s cuture into Lolita makes it unique. This I greatly agree because one of the concepts of the Muslim Lolitas is to incorporate the Muslim identity into Lolita and also to make Lolita flexible to wear by Muslims. I also love the idea of fusion in the Lolita fashion as it creates more diversity and a wider range of choice for people to dress.

She tells the fact that before she became involved in Lolita, she used to wear very revealing clothes and she claims that after she got involved into Lolita, most of her friends were not her friend anymore. She also states that people were friends with her just because she wore clothes that show off her curves and when she started to dress in the modest Lolita way they fled from her meaning that they were only friend with her body. I feel quite sad after reading this comment because of the mentality of some of us humans. I’m not saying that I am better than any of them because let’s face it, I am only human and I have my own flaws and incompletion. I feel that it is a good thing that this person got into Lolita since she can now see who her real friends are and who are the people not worthy to be called friends. So here I’m just going to high light that Lolita is a fashion that proves to be modest and pure as so Islam and also other religions stated.

So the debate here is actually not of the Muslim’s wearing headscarves with Lolita dresses, it’s of girls, no matter what religion, race or culture, preserving their modesty with Lolita. So I kindly reach a hand to those who have thrown us harsh comments and unhealthy remarks, please find it in you to accept that the hijab, scratch that, I mean the covering of one’s hair and head while wearing Lolita is not a crime within the fashion, it is a blessing of diversity.

and sooo sorry for not posting in a while.. I've been busy with my studies lately~ I see there's a lot more followers than before.. Alhamdulillah.. We very much appreciate all your support! Thank you!

Well I'm going to post up some pictures of us Muslim Lolitas in Malaysia during Comic Fiesta 2010 (CF). Surprisingly the number of hijab Lolitas are increasing even though it's not a very big number, but increasing nonetheless~

Well here's what I painstakingly sew last minute for CF. Mind you it's not actually finished when I wore it that day.. I didn't have the time to hem the leaves of the JSK so I just wore it and hoped nobody pot the messy trims. It's my version of a "what I hope" pirate lolita coord. Pardon my mediocre sewing skills though.

I didn't sleep for 2 nights doing it.

Notice my skirt is a little flat..??

haha.. yeah I forgot my petti, isn't that just fantastic~ *shotself*

It's basically a black JSK with a velveteen neck over a cream blouse. I'm not sure if it's distinctive in this picture tho. I wore some pearls and a corset belt. I couldn't find a more "pirate-ish" belt in such a short time tho so that one had to suffice. Oh and a small broach on my collar.

I decided to go with a hood to make it a bit more pirate-like.

Well I went there with my friend Iylani or easily known as Lanie. She's just starting to get into the lolita fashion. She's a Muslim Lolita too but a non-hijabi and no she's not Japanese, she's Malay with Japanese lineage.

Here are some of the wonderful new hijabi lolita we encountered there at CF.

I dare say it was a joy to meet new people with the same interest.

I don't know why but they were mostly wearing EGL and gothic lolita.

But still I think it's smashing to see how other Muslim lolita ornate their Hijabs.

These two girls really are wonderful!!

Me and Lanie literally scavenged the entire hall looking for this girl so that we could take a picture of her.

Well now shall we move on to the older members of our little Muslim lolita group?

I don't think I've ever posted any pics of her before on this site but she was one of the inconspicuous people who were initially along side the Muslim Lolita group.

I'll tell you this.. Her coord here is 100% handmade! Isn't that just amazing!!

I heard she ripped open a teddy bear to use the fur for her other lolita dress.

Well she wore this EGL coord for the Lolita fashion show.

That was the very first lolita fashion show ever held in Malaysia.

So you bet I'm proud that there were two Muslim Lolita members in it!

Now I mentions that TWO of our members was in the lolita fashion show and the other one is none other than our own Tim!

Now she wore her Bodyline coord with a black jacket which was AMAZING!

Though I always adore her handsewn dresses more.

But well she did wonderful in the fashion show!

I love that your still represent your religion while in lolita. Here is a suggestion from a loli of over 10 yrs. Instead of wearing bonnets and headresses over your hijab use flower clips close to your ears ect, I think headress/bonnet +hijab is too much.

Some of us only have little experience and are just starting out in this community so of course we aren't very good lolitas at the moment.. who ever said we were? the most important thing is we want to improve.

We do know the importance of a decent dress however please don't judge by just pictures of us when we were still starting out in the community and learning. We are as we speak trying to better ourselves and are making efforts to attain decent dresses~ and as all know lolita is expensive and not all of us are rich. Some of us have to work part time to pay for our collage fees and all.. so there just a limit of how much we can save a month. Some are even from small isolated towns with limited connections so it's hard but we are trying our best.

Is Lolita only for those below the age of 20?

No! Age will not an should not be a barrier for those interested in Lolita. Many members from a lot of lolita communities all around the world have passed their teens. Lolita have many sub-cultures with different styles. For example, you might starte off your earlier Lolita life wearing Sweet Lolita but that shouldn't hinder you to keep on continuing the Lolita love. Okay, If you had matured and Sweet lolita isn't suited for you anymore then there are always other Lolita styles that can be fitted to suit the now matured you such as Classic Lolita! Classic Lolita is wonderful because it is one of the only styles that would suit both teens and those who have passed their years.

Isn't Lolita just for girls?
A lot of male and also some female have got this all wrong. Lolita is NOT just for girls. Kodona is a male version of Lolita. Its still categoried in the Lolita column however don't get me wrong, there are no skirts or dresses included in the sub-lolita style. Alternatives to Kodona is also Elegant Gothic Aristocrat. The same rule and appeal of stature and elegance does apply for Kodona styles just like Lolita. For more samples of Kodona style you can always read or watch anime/manga such as Kuroshitsuji.

Just add a bit of lace and it's Lolita!
This is totally untrue in some cases. Yes, some particular dresses when added lace can successfully turn into a Lolita dress but most are not. Having lace on an item doesn't instantly make it Lolita. There is the basic guidelines that should be followed to lable such items as Lolita such as quality, class, modesty etc. etc. Its actually a fact that most Lolita dresses don't have lace on them~ If you have any doubts then kindly ask other fellow experienced Lolita.

Mana is the creator of Lolita
Some Mana fangirls might disagree with me, however the dashing J-rock artist did not create Lolita. Don't get me wrong, I am also a die-hard fan of Mana-sama, however Lolita has been around for centuries back in the historical ages of the Victorian Era and also the Rococo periods. It was the traditional garments of the late English and also the French while being worn in the Europe a long time ago. It is true that Mana does have his own Lolita brand named Moi Meme Moitie but nevertheless the truth is he did not invent the fashion. He merely took the name "Elegant Gothic Lolita" to brand the type of clothes his label produces that popularized the Lolita trend.

Weren't all Lolita's ment to be nice??
This is not necessarily true because as truth lies, Lolita is still a fashion unlike when Lolita was lifestyle back in those historical times where Aristocracy was still a part of it. Many girls are affected by this "lolita should be nice" statement when they wear their lolita clothes. Lolita having to carry themselves and have a more stricter manner (though this is sometimes due to the fact that they want to protect their clothes) a person do not have to alter their personalities just because they put on a set of clothes. This is different if we were talking about ‘Lifestyle Lolita’ who according to the name perefer to live the strict Lolita ways.

Nevertheless I should say that being nice or being nasty is related to human behaviors and common courtesy. So isn't it common sense for people to be nice? So one should be nice as a human being, not because they wear Lolita, as it is an honorable trait.

‘I’m not Asian, can I still be a good Lolita?’
This is not surprisingly a common issue among Lolita nowadays. Though Lolita now is mainly spread from Japan, people think the Asian looks have a huge matter over this. We must go back in History, Lolita was first and formost from the west where now it is reincarnated into the East. Therefore this shouldn't be an issue. Caucasian and Asian or any people really can carry out the Lolita look if they follow the lolita guidelines properly.

Costumes and Lolita dresses are just the same~
No! Costumes and Lolita are an entirely different matter! Lolita is a fashion, it is a trend whereas costume and cosplay are not of the category. Lolita should never be regarded as a mere costume.

Ok this is a make up tutorial is for style like gothic lolita, cosplay, maybe guro lolita coz the define in make up is really great and definitely NOT for EGL or classic lolita coz they require a more natural look.

1) Scrub ur face clean. A clean face is the basis of a good look.

2) If you wish you could put on ur contact lens. Those bigger diameter contacts are very good to make the eyes look cuter and more doll-like.

3) Gently apply some foundation or if u wish to use normal face powder or compact powder is fine but make sure you have the right tone to suit the colour of ur skin. Eventhough this is not classic or EGL style but we do want the skin tone to look natural.

4) For the eyes you'll need to use liquid eyeliner. Completely paint your eyelids up to where ur eyeslids folds. This is a good style for Asians coz it makes our eyes look bigger and cuter. For westerners are great as well and you gals have it easy bcoz your eyes are naturally big. You can see the difference in size in the picture below...

and when ur done doing both of ur eyelids it'll look like this:

5) For ur under eyelids: run a white eyeliner along the bottom of ur eyelids to achieve a teary effect. This will make you look like ur sulking but still it adds a touch of cuteness to your look even if ur wearing gurololi..

6) You can now use mascara or face lashes to enhance ur eyes. Define ur eyebrows with a browliner that suits the colour of ur brows and tidy them so that they look neat.

7) Now on to ur lips. Use a rosy pink or a soft red on ur lips. [If you have fair skin I advise u to use rosy pink as it will bring out your lips.] If you're wearing gothilolita you might want to try running a black eyeliner around the edges of ur lips neatly. This will look unique and more revealing~

8) Now on to the last part. Apply a soft coloured blusher to both of you upper cheeks. Always remember to apply it with a brushing movement and try to even the colour out.

9) Lastly neaten up you look and gently wipe off any unwanted colours.. now you are ready to put on your attire~

This is the finishing result but pardon the low quality of this picture. I promise you that you'll look fantastically cute when you walk down with ur full dress~

Mafia Style

I saw a mafia style like this once when I was browsing through some Harajuku magazine. It was a lolita style yet with a hint of Mafia... I thought it was cool and it is.. Well this dress I wore isn't really that lolita.. Its kinda Visual style but oh well.. I just wanted to show you gals how I wore that headscarf but then I couldn't upload the tutorial video. I'll try to put in step by step pictures after this.

Ignore the Dir en Grey poster on the back there.. haha.. Well this headscarf is a large triangle shaped cloth with the rims shredded. I just tied it behind my head then tied it above the knot that I did before... gahhh.. this is soo frustrating.. I wished I had taken pictures when I was putting it on.. nevermind...I'll get to that later..

Oh well so here we are.. anyone wanna try out their creativity for mafia lolita then be my guest.. it's great!!

Hijab in Japanese Lolita

I was hanging out with some friends at KLCC last week and we browsed through Kinokunia's japanese magazine section.. There's the usual Gothic n Lolita Bible, Fool's mate, Shoxx and stuff but there's this lolita catalog I picked out that had something really interesting in it. It was a picture of a gothloli with a headscarf or as we might call it a Hijab.

Muslim Lolita First Gathering

We had our very first Muslim Lolita Gathering on the 20^th February 2010.

Alhamdulillah it was a success.

I was so perked up on organizing it and changing the dates to fit Tim and Shi’s schedule and stuff. It’s a good thing Ariel was there to help me with it or I would’ve crashed down with trying to smoothen the schedule and with my internet problems and stuff. He’s a life saver!

So yeah.. I was surprised. There were a lot of people who attended it. Around 12 people I think but only 4 people dressed up though. There was supposed to be a lot more people dressing up like Maya-senpai, Ena and some of Mel’s and Tim’s friends but they couldn’t come. Ariel wore something cool too and Matsu came with his freakishly bright hair…haha. It was cool because all of us had never met each other in person before [well I’ve never met them in person before] but we all acted like we’ve known each other for years even though we only chat trough cyberspace.

We were supposed to gather at I-socks Haunted house then I was having breakfast with Sushi and Mimi at McDonalds so we all ended up there. We girls, Mel, Mimi, Sushi and Mel’s friends went to change our clothes in the ladies room. It was hectic! Haha… but fun though coz we were all in our Lolita dresses trying to darken or eyelids and putting on contacts and stuff. Ladies were coming in and looking at us weirdly coz I think they wouldn’t have anticipated a group of lolita putting make up in the ladies room so early in the morning.

Meanwhile, Ariel went to find some of the others and Matsu called me when he arrived. So after about half an hour or more battling with Sushi’s fake eyelashes we were done and went back to McD to see Tim and her friends and also Matsu there too. There we all had an introduction and it was interesting coz by that time McD was filled with people who stared at us in our Lolita dresses…lol.

So first stop was at our temple, at I-socks Haunted House coz it’s a prerequisite for any gothic/visua kei or Lolita gathering ever held in Time Square to take pictures there. It’s like the whole unwritten rule of a gathering at Time Square…lol. Tim and I bought 2 new dresses and I can’t believe Matsu fell asleep at our sacred place!!!

Oh well then we all went to the arcade. It was… WOW!! It isn’t everyday u see a Lolita in a hijab beating high scores on the dancing game!! Tim was bloody FANTASTIC!!!! Ariel and Matsu had a go. Ariel was so cool for a pervert..haha.

We then went to the cafeteria to give a chance for some of us to go and pray and stuff. We also met Abg Adli. He’s the reporter for Tokyofashion.com and he was doing a report on Harajuku fashion in Malaysia so he came to interview us. We also had a brief and simple photo shoot at some empty pathway coz it was the perfect scene. It was hilarious and fun though coz we all got shooed away by some guard who thought we were up to something.

After that we all pack up and said goodbye to Abg Adli and went off to Bukit Bintang by LRT. Then from there we walked all the way to Pavilion and to KLCC. It was crazy!!! People on the streets, pedestrian, people on busses that passed by, they were all staring at us. Some were amazed, some were intrigued and some were even shocked…lolz. It’s not everyday you see a group of Muslim Lolita walking through the streets of KL.

Our final event was another photo shoot session at KLCC garden. It’s was hot, sunny and we were sweaty. I dunno about the rest but my feet were killing me in those Lolita shoes!! But it was perfect. We met Hisa-chan and also Machiya-nesan too who helped in most of the photographing. Mel had to leave early so we had a group hug and said goodbye to her. Till the next time we meet.

After taking a lot of videos of me, Sushi and Tim doing the Caramel Danshen.. and after that we all went our separate ways..lol

It was fun n I wish we cud do it more often…

New Updates and announcement

Right now my exams r still not over so I can't do much updating here. After 8th December I'll post more and also update the layout.

If you noticed I just added a counter on the left sidebar here so you'll see how visitors from all over the world. Currently there won't be any coz I just added it but it'll soon build up. I regret not adding it sooner. Oh well...

Oh and about the comic fiesta. I can't believe it but I'M NOT GOING!! Bummer. The airline canceled my ticket to Beijing so my new flight is on the day of the Comic Fiesta. This sucks. Well nevermind. There will be a Comic Fiesta [CF] at Sunway Pyramid, Malaysia on the 19th and 20th December!!!

I will be there so if you're going then keep an eye out for me!

I know there's going to be a whole lot of lolita's attending. I might be cosplaying. What, i don't know yet so if not cosplaying I'll wear a black and white Muslim Lolita with White ridinghood and white contacts. Pinch me if you see me..lol!

Going to be a great one this year. I heard the booths are offering a whole lot of great stuff and the cosplay and singing contest are going to be WICKED!!!! So don't forget to come!!

Hey all.. Aira here.

Just checking in to inform you guys that I'm working on updating this blog. I'll post more headscarf styles and due to viewers advocate I'll be posting steps on how to wear them and also how to make your own too.
But I might be late in updating coz I have exams. Just keep and eye out..

Romantic Rose

This style is a litte tricky. It has same basic layout of the tied-back head scarf but the scarf itself here has a unique style to it's edge. The rims of this scarf is cut into a curtain of shredded fabric.

The shreds will roll into dangles depending on the type of fabric you use.

You then fashion the scarf, wraping it and tie it at the back of you neck before wrapping the loose ends of the scarf upwards onto you head secure it in a bow or pin it down. Rosettes, ribbons, bows or even normal Lolita headdress can be use to add more creativity to the look.

Black and White Ruffled Hood

Another hood to be fashioned with your Lolita dress. This one is a black hood with white embroided rose on the rims. I then attached or sewed on whit ruffles with white lace to it. Inside you can wear a simple tied-back hijab and high collar to cover your neck. If you don't have a high neck collar than a neck band with lace or ruffles could be worn.

Black Riding Hood

This style is very simple to make. Just buy any blaack hood [colour depends on you dress]. First wear a simple hijab underneath to cover your neck and head then just simply fashion the hood over it.

You can also line the rimms of the hood with lace or add riboons and rosettes to it.

Earth Headscarf

This particular style I design fron a tie-back scarf. The Lolita dress here is brown in colour so I picked a headscarf with colours ranging from dark, light brown and cadmium yellow. Then I added black lace and plus a normal Lolita rosette.

This style is easy to make. Any scarf would do and the colours depends on the Lolita dress that you're wearing. The lace design is completely subjective. Use any kind you like but remember to choose ones that are suitable.

Where to get Lolita clothes in Malaysia?

Lolita is an expensive fashion but don’t fret!! Just use your crativity!!
I usually make my own Lolita dresses from scraps or just mix and match the frilled skirts and blouse I have. As for the accessories I also make them myself but the boots I have to buy.

For those who are capable of sewing their own then there’s no problem, it’s even cheaper that way. You could even transform a normal dress into Lolita by adding frills, lace, etc. depending on your creativity. You could even get them tailored made but they’re gonna be expensive, about RM200+.

If you do want custom or ready made dresses from shops then the store I usually visit is i-sock at level 4, Times Square, KL. They provide a range of outfits, shoes and also accessories which are pretty good. They’ve have very recently offer crazy contact lens as well. A good time to go is when they offer 30-50% off, and then you could get platform boots for only RM50!!

To get discounts at their i-socks haunted house and member house then I advise you to become their member. Just buy anything of RM10+ at their public store then you’ll receive a slip which enables you to enter the i-socks member house. To get your membership, you have to buy anything that is RM50+ at the member house and pay an addition RM5 for the actual membership card. 1 point will be put into your i-socks account for ever RM10 you purchase. If you collect enough points then you can pay them using those points instead of money.

If you want more merchandise shipped directly from Japan then I advise you scan for any online Lolita shops. M.A.Kingdom offers good products but their price is a bit higher than i-socks but their products are completely of high quality.

What if you don’t have the confidence to wear Lolita because you are afraid what other people might think of you?

Well that is also one dilemma which had faltered many Muslims. I cannot say to you that you should ignore what people think of you because the feeling will always be there even if you try really, really hard to not mind what people think.

How about trying reverse psychology on yourself? Are you afraid that people might think you’re weird? Freeky? Retarded? Then Reverse those sneers and take it as a compliment, that’s what I always do. I know it’s hard but try and you’ll get the hang of it.

Think of it like this. If people say or think that you are weird then say to yourself, “That’s good, weird stands out and only brave people stands out so weird is bravery.” There, problem solved. Would the person who thinks you’re weird have the guts to stand out? No, they want to fit in. I’ve always have the impression of people who wants to blend in with the crowds are people who’s minds are simple. People who want to be different, who don’t like being the same and most people are, those are the people with creative and interesting minds.

Well, that’s all in my opinion.

What kind of Lolita style would best suit a Muslim?

In my opinion most of the styles could suit Muslims such as Sweet Lolita, Gothloli, Classic Lolita, Waloli even Hime Lolita if you know how to style them carefully.

To solve the skirt problem with Sweet, Gothic, and Waloli, you could buy some loose stoking or leggings which are really suitable to cover your legs. These skirts are mostly above the knees and some you can get with longer skirts. Buying knee-high boots could also work because they don’t show the shape of your legs depending on the types of boots you buy.

But if you want it easier Classic EGA, Madame or Hime Lolita would be best. EGA and Madame are easy because the styles are simplicity, elegance and maturity. Most of the clothes for Madame are dresses with high neck, long sleeves and long trailing gowns. No problem with this eh? And Hime Lolita also encompasses long trailing gowns with lace and is more colourful for those who want to look dreamier.

Is it wrong to wear a headscarf [hijab] with Lolita dresses?

At first I thought it was kinda silly but then again if you arrange it creatively then it’s surprisingly fashionable. It’s not wrong to wear a headscarf with a Lolita Dress. It’s your clothes so it goes for you to decide. And Lolita is a fashion and in fashion styles are to be revolutionized for others to be suited to their customs so why not revolutionize Lolita fashion for Muslims?

There are countless of ways for us to fashion our headscarves so why not just make with our creativity and make it suitable for us to wear them with Lolita garments! And may I remind you that headscarf is not the only alternative of covering ourselves. There are modified hats and hand-made hoods as well.

Gothic/Punk Lolita is not allowed for Muslims?

Gothic Lolita [Gothloli] is one of the most popular Lolita styles and when someone hears the word Gothic Lolita they instantly go back to the modern gothic fashion which is a completely different style to Gothic Lolita thus labeling Lolita as somewhat of a cult or a band of rebellious teenagers. This is absolutely wrong!

Though Gothloli has some influences from the gothic fashion however it is still bounded to the lolita rule of elegance, modesty and sweetness. It is actually more commonly know as Elegant Gothic lolita or EGL. Let me clarify the differences between EGL and Modern Gothic fashion. These two are a completely different matter. Pardon me if I get this a tad off but to my understanding, Gothic fashion is a clothing style worn by members of the Goth subculture; a dark, sometimes morbid, eroticized fashion and style of dress whereas EGL is just a fashion comprising of modesty and elegance, the complete opposite of Gothic fahsion.

The above pictures are examples of Elegant Gothic Lolita which primarily focus on sweetness, elegance and modesty.

Some might perceive EGL as similar to black cutls with sacrificial rituals or devil whorshippers just because EGL mosly is worn in black. There are NO rituals and belief or sacrificial doings in Gothic/Punk Lolita because it’s just fashion!!

It’s not as if we’re going out in the middle of the night wearing Punk Lolita to clubs or any socially-ill places. So as long as you don’t go doing reckless stuffs that are not allowed then its ok. So the next time your parents or some other adults/people, who haven’t the slightest clue about Lolita scolds you for liking it, you could clarify it to them the differences between what they are assuming and what the truth is really about.

As long you stick to the Muslim and lolita dress codes and don't stray away from that fact therefor it is okay~

What is Visual Kei?

Visual kei (ヴィジュアル系, vijuaru kei, lit. "visual style") refers to a movement among Japanese musicians that is characterized by the use of eccentric, sometimes flamboyant looks. This usually involves striking make-up, unusual hair styles and elaborate costumes, often, but not always, coupled with androgynous aesthetics. It is another of Japan’s sub culture which is in tune with Lolita Fashion though not involved with filly dresses or lace.

Visual Kei is pioneered by bands of the late 1980s such as X Japan, D'erlanger and Buck-Tick.
The fashion, like its name, envisions styles which are visual. With multitude of eccentric creativities, colours and accessories involving chains, leather and fish nettings, the style includes more beauty coupled with some Gothic and Punk essences.

Ōji (王子?) or Ōji-sama (王子様?), meaning "prince," is a Japanese fashion that is considered the male version of Lolita fashion. This style takes its influence from the clothing boys in the Victorian era wore. Though it is considered a "boy style", it is often worn by both genders.
Ōji is inspired by the royal clothing of nobles or princes, those often seen are more inspired by 18th-19th century French wear, good examples would be some of the outfits sold through Baby, the Stars Shine Bright's line Alice and the Pirates.

Kodona is inspired by what was worn by Victorian boys, and includes masculine blouses and shirts, knickerbockers and other styles of short trousers, knee high socks, top hats, and newsboy caps. The colors usually used are black, white, blue and burgundy, though there are feminine versions of the fashion with a broader palette. Make-up, when worn with the fashion, is usually light and minimal.

The term kodona (from "kodomo otona," literally "child-adult") was coined by Plastic Tree's vocalist Ryūtarō Arimura as he described his dress sense and is often used as the Western name for the fashion. Ryūtarō, as well as Yukke from MUCC are two of the most popular wearers of boystyle. Visual Kei bands such as Versailles are also good inspiration when trying to achieve Ōji.

Qi Lolita is a similar style but uses Chinese clothing and accessories in place of Japanese. Usually this includes qipao and cheongsam-dresses modified to accommodate a petticoat. Accessories include platform-slippers for footwear and bun-covers as hair accessories.

Wa Lolita (or Waloli) combines traditional Japanese clothing styles with the Lolita fashion. Wa Lolita usually consists of kimono or hakama modified to fit with common Lolita garments. The bottom half of the garment is altered to accommodate a petticoat, or a kimono-style blouse is used as a top to accompany a plain Lolita skirt. Outerwear can include haori or adult-sized hifu-vests. The shoes and accessories used in this style are typical of traditional Japanese garb including kanzashi flowers, and geta, zori, or Okobo. These shoes are often used in place of the normal Lolita platform and high-heeled shoes.

Punk Lolita

Punk Lolita (or Lolita Punk) adds punk fashion elements to Lolita fashion. Motifs that are usually found in punk clothing, such as tattered fabric, ties, safety pins and chains, screen-printed fabrics, plaids, and short, androgynous hairstyles are incorporated into the Lolita look. The most popular garments are blouses or cutsews and skirts, although dresses and jumper skirts are also worn. Common footwear includes boots, Mary Janes or oxfords with platforms.

Common Punk Lolita brands are A+Lidel, Putumayo, h. NAOTO and Na+H. Many of the Japanese punk Lolita fashion brands take influence from London's famous Camden Town Markets. Vivienne Westwood, who, though not a Lolita designer, has items and collections that reflect Lolita sensibilities, especially in her Japanese collections, is popular in the punk Lolita scene.

Classic Lolita

Classic Lolita is a more mature style of Lolita that focuses on Baroque, Regency, and Rocaille styles. Colors and patterns used in classic Lolita can be seen as somewhere between the Gothic and sweet styles; it is not as dark as Gothic Lolita, but not as cutesie as sweet Lolita. This look can be seen as the more sophisticated, mature Lolita style because of its use of small, intricate patterns, as well more muted colors on the fabric and in the overall design. Designs containing a-lines, as well as Empire waists are also used to add to the more mature look of the classic style, most classic Lolita outfits, however, still stick to the basic Lolita silhouette. Shoes and accessories are less whimsical and more functional. Jewelry with intricate designs is also common. The makeup used in classic Lolita is often a more muted version of the sweet Lolita makeup, with an emphasis placed on natural coloring. An example of the classical Lolita brands are Juliette et Justine, Innocent World, Victorian Maiden and Mary Magdalene.

Madam is a Japanese fashion which is the feminine version of Aristocrat of the Classic Lolita, which is inspired by what is thought to be worn by European Middle Class and above status persons in the Middle Ages and by fashion worn by the upper class in the 19th Century, though Madam gets more of its influences from 19th Century fashion. The fashion includes long sleeve blouses and shirts, long skirts, corsetry and dresses with feminine, but not usually frilly styling that can come in a variety of colors. Make-up, when worn, is usually mature and on the slightly heavier side, though not excessive.

Aristocrat (or Madam when referring to the feminine version of the fashion) is a Japanese fashion that is inspired by what is thought to be worn by European Middle Class and above status persons in the Middle Ages as well as the upper class in the 19th century. The fashion includes long sleeve blouses and shirts, long skirts, corsetry, pants and dresses that are styled similarly for men and women, since it is centered on androgyny and elegance. Sweet Lolita (amaloli) is heavily influenced by Rococo styles as well as Victorian and Edwardian clothing. Focusing on the child and fantasy aspects of Lolita, the Sweet Lolita style adopts the basic Lolita format and uses lighter colors and child fantasy themes in its design.
Makeup used in sweet Lolita is common throughout most Lolita styles. A natural look is emphasized, to help maintain the childlike feel of Lolita. Light pastels and natural colors make up the Lolita makeup color scheme.

Sweet Lolita places its focus on the child-like aspects of the Lolita style. Outfits consist of pastels, gingham or other colorful prints, lace, bows, and ribbons to emphasize the cuteness in the design. Popular themes in the sweet Lolita are references to Alice in Wonderland, fruits, sweets and classic fairy-tales. Jewelry often reflects this fantasy theme. Headdresses and bows are also a popular hair accessory to the sweet Lolita look. Bags and purses are often very cute with princess-like designs, and often in the form strawberries, crowns, hearts, and stuffed animals.
Momoko, a protagonist in the book/film Shimotsuma Monogatari (Kamikaze Girls in the US), is a popular example of sweet Lolita. She idealizes the rococo period and tries to "live" in the Rococo lifestyle through Lolita. She loves the popular Sweet Lolita brand, Baby, The Stars Shine Bright. Other Sweet Lolita brands include Manifesteange Metamorphose temps de fille and Angelic Pretty. Emily Temple cute (sister brand of Shirley Temple, a Japanese boutique for little girls), Jane Marple, and MILK are brands that carry more clothing that would be considered more casual, and are available to purchase at department stores in Japan.

Gothic Lolita (known in Japan as gosurori, "goth-loli") is a mixture of the Gothic and Lolita fashion. The origins of the Japanese Gothic style can be traced back to the English New Wave Movement during the 1980s: however, the Japanese Gothic scene is fundamentally different from the Gothic subcultures of the west. This Gothic fashion has been adopted into the Lolita fashion through the use of darker make up, clothing, and themes in the design. Unlike other Lolita Styles, in Gothic Lolita darker colors are used for makeup. Red lipstick and smoky or neatly defined eyes, created using black eyeliner, are typical styles. The Gothic Lolita makeup is not as heavy or dramatic as the Western Gothic counterparts. Newer makeup styles emphasize lighter colors but still retain the heavy eye makeup.

The outfits themselves usually use dark color schemes like black, dark blues and purples; often with accents of white. As with western gothic subculture, cross jewelry and other religious symbols are also used to accessorize the gothic Lolita look. Other accessories, like bags and purses, are often in uncommon shapes like bats, coffins, and crucifixes.

Like many other Lolita fashions, the Japanese visual kei movement was responsible for helping to introduce and popularize the Gothic Lolita style. One artist in particular, Mana, a Japanese musician and fashion-designer, is considered to be the major force behind the popularization of the Gothic Lolita style, though he is not credited with creating it. Cosplaying Lolita is usually looked down upon by the EGL community, since Lolita is a fashion style rather than a costume.

In Japan, despite still being a subculture and fringe fashion, Lolita fashion is mass-marketed and has wide visibility particularly in the streets of Tokyo and Osaka, on television, in manga (see Paradise Kiss by Ai Yazawa or Princess Princess (manga) by Mikiyo Tsuda for examples of Lolita inspired manga) and computer games.

It was first published in early 2001, The 100+ page magazine includes fashion tips, photos, sewing patterns, catalog descriptions, decorating ideas, and recipes. Tokyopop has been releasing the English language version of the magazine since February 2008.

Lolita Fashion (ロリータ・ファッション, Rorīta fasshon) is a fashion subculture in Japan that is primarily influenced by Victorian clothing as well as costumes from the Rococo period.
Lolita has made this into a unique fashion by adding Gothic and original design elements to the look. From this, Lolita fashion has evolved into several different sub styles and has created a devoted subculture in Japan. The Lolita look consists primarily of a knee length skirt or dress, headdress, blouse, petticoat, knee high socks or stockings and rocking horse or high heel/platform shoes.

Although the origin of Lolita fashion is unclear, it is likely the movement started in the late 1970s when famous labels including Pink House, Milk and Angelic Pretty began selling clothes that would be considered "Lolita" by today's standards. Shortly after that came Baby, The Stars Shine Bright, and Metamorphose temps de fille. In the 1990s, Lolita fashion became better recognized, with bands like Malice Mizer and other Visual Kei (or visual type) bands coming into popularity. These bands wore intricate costumes, which fans began adopting as their own style. The style soon spread from its origins in the Kansai region, and ultimately reached Tokyo where it became popularized throughout Japanese youth culture.

Today, Lolita fashion has grown so much in popularity that it can be found even in department stores in Japan. Today many young people wear the fashion all around the world.
Lolita was influenced and popularized by the imagery of more feminine Visual Kei (or "visual art") bands.
